Eligibility

Minimum 50% Marks in Higher Secondary or Equivalent examination (CBSE,ISC,A Levels or any other equivalent board exams) with English as a compulsory subject preffered.

 

Students have to pass the CET and GDPI exams with a Creative aptitude in Interior Design.

Overview

This pioneering course consists of various design and theory modules, each one provides you with a different aspect to design practice or theory, with an emphasis on practical design skills, product making & innovations in conceptual interior design, industry practices, research and development alongside sustainability and ethics.

 

Students will be exposed to key developments and issues related to the global interior industry. Core aspects of the course will focus on the interior business, global challenges and solutions in design, sourcing, production, consumption and sustainability in interior. The course fuses together research, education, practice and business to inspire students to explore new sustainable solutions within the interior industry with critical analysis and zero waste design.

 

You will be taught by professional designers and practitioners to allow you to gain firsthand knowledge and experience of the 21st century interior design industry. The course includes industry internships, live projects, design mentorship, design competitions and industry experiences.

Course Aim

It encourages students to develop:

 

  1. an ability to record from direct observation and personal experience;
  2. an ability to identify and solve problems in visual and/or other forms;
  3. creativity, visual awareness, critical and cultural understanding;
  4. an imaginative, creative and personal response;
  5. confidence, enthusiasm and a sense of achievement in the practice of Art and Design;
  6. growing independence in the refinement and development of ideas and personal outcomes;
  7. engagement and experimentation with a range of media, materials and techniques, including new media where appropriate;
  8. experience of working in relevant frameworks and exploration of manipulative skills necessary to form, compose and communicate in two and/or three dimensions;
  9. knowledge of a working vocabulary relevant to the subject and an interest in, and a critical awareness of, other practitioners, environments and cultures;
  10.  investigative, analytical, experimental, interpretative, practical, technical and expressive skills.

Course In-Depth

The course begins with an introduction to the discipline, giving you the tools to operate in your specialist design field. Throughout the course of study, each component gives experience in different aspects of design practice and theory, with an emphasis on ethical and sustainable materials and technologies, and the fusion of contemporary and naturally sustainable traditional skills enabling you to build confidence in exploring your subject.

 

We see this combination of curious enquiry and professional rigour as key to nurturing the designer as a ‘critical professional’, grounded in the specialist field of Interior Design, but one who understands the need and is equipped to work towards an ethical and sustainable industry. Practical skills are taught throughout the course in workshops and tutorials using traditional and state of the art equipments.

Course Structure

Year 1 – INCEPTION

The first year of the design course is dedicated to build up the foundation skills in the students with respect to multifarious cross discipline studies, research and projects. This year focuses strongly to strengthen the core and noncore design base of the students through conducting various seminars, lectures, field visits and studio works giving them a hands on approach to different design skills with a global perspective in terms of design visualization, interpretation, expression. Workshops and tutorial will take place throughout the year to develop the practical skills of the students. Students will also learn the historical and cultural context for fashion.

 

Students will undertake crafts based work experience in the First year.

 

YEAR 1 OUTCOME – INDUSTRY SUBMERSION (CROSS DISCIPLINARY WORK EXPERIENCE).

Year 2 – EVOLUTION

In this year students takes up their knowledge achieved in their inception year to focus strongly on their chosen field of specialisation in design studies evolving into a more creative individual through design exploration and experimentation with specific research processes and techniques with design experts and mentors. They look more into the alternative processes of design ideation, techniques and production through their in-depth knowledge on research and development with interlinked design modules and thinking processes.

 

Students will undertake work experience – design internship in the second year.

 

YEAR 2 OUTCOME – DESIGN CONCIOUSNESS (SPECIALIST DESIGN INTERNSHIP).

Year 3 – REVELATION

The final year of this design course will implement critical and rational design thinking into the students bringing out their own individualistic perspective and approach to design through a realisation of a capsule collection, an in-depth evaluative design journal with a design portfolio showcasing the best of their design ideations and skills to the industry with a strong determination to gain an impressive foothold into the global design industry with their own unique design philosophy and identity through creativity, originality, versatility, and professional skills.

You will learn how traditional sustainable practices such as ‘ikkat’ textiles, hand loomed weaving, shibori, along with contemporary ethical and sustainable practices such as; ‘peace silk’ and herbal dying can be incorporated into modern contemporary design practices.
